The seventh-generation Outback features updates to the ride quality and comfort of the vehicle, as well as a larger interior, more cubic feet of cargo volume, and more advanced technology. Subaru has updated several of the driver-assist safety features within the vehicle, as well as added programs like Hands-Free Driving Assistance. The roof rails are also sturdier on the 2026 Outback, and drivers will see better technology throughout the cabin with a 12.1-inch touchscreen now standard.
Real World Performance
The 2026 Subaru Outback has two powertrain options: a 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine or a 2.4-liter direct-injection turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® engine. The 2.5-liter engine offers 180 horsepower and 179 lb.-ft of torque, and the 2.4-liter offers 260 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft of torque. All vehicles feature a Lineartronic® CVT (continuously variable transmission) with 8-speed manual shift mode and Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive.
For its adventuring and practical capabilities, the 2026 Outback features 35 cubic feet of cargo space, which is an increase over previous model years. The vehicle can tow up to 3500 pounds, which makes the Outback a valuable ally in hauling anything from small recreational vehicles to small boats and trailers.
